Apple Might Be Releasing a Larger Version of the Entry-Level iPhone 9

According to a report from 9to5Mac, the iOS 14 code includes evidence that Apple is working on a larger version of the supposedly entry-level iPhone 9 as a replacement for both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus.

Seeing as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus utilize 4.7 and 5.5-inch LCD displays, the replacement models will most likely hold the same sizes. Further evidence states that the two new entries will use the A13 Bionic chip — the same processor of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro — and will have the static Home button of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8. The iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus’ marketing as entry-level models will mean Touch ID technology instead of Face ID, but both phones will be able to use the higher-end features of Apple Pay and Express Transit. Lastly, the phones will have the power to scan NFC (near-field communication) tags just like the iPhone XR and up.

9to5Mac also notes that the iPhone 9, iPhone 9 Plus and even iPhone SE 2 names are simply placeholders for now, but the models are expected to see a Spring 2020 release either alongside or after the release of iOS 13.4.

In case you missed it, Apple is temporarily closing all retail locations outside of China.
