According to the latest report from Apptopia, the Disney+ app has been downloaded 22 million times between its November 12 launch and December 10. The streaming service app has been ranked No. 1 every day since its launch in the App Store and Google Play, and sees an average of 9.5 million active mobile users per day.
Report writer Adam Blocker credits the success to the combination of the inexpensive monthly subscription service of Disney+ at $6.99 USD AND the Hulu and ESPN+ bundle at $12.99 USD, plus the effective marketing strategies of the Walt Disney Company.
Despite the strong start, Disney+ has not had an eventful impact on competitors like Netflix, HBO Now and Amazon Prime. Netflix experienced a quick dip in mobile traffic after the launch of Disney+, but volume has returned to normal.
ORIGINAL STORY (November 26, 2019): According to new data, Disney+ is reportedly averaging close to a million new subscribers per day. Research firm Apptopia notes that the new streaming service’s app has been downloaded 15.5 million times (previously 3.4 million) and took in about $5 million USD through in-app purchases in the platform’s first 13 days. This number is much higher, however, Apptopia is unable to capture data from the service’s actual Web site for an official estimation.
According to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives who spoke to with The New York Post, “This shows the company is gonna be a legit competitor to the likes of Netflix, despite the skeptics that continue to doubt the House of Mouse. The pricing, the content and the bundling was just a pure genius strategy from Iger and Disney.” Following its launch date, Disney reported the streaming service had about 10 million subscribers, which beat out analyst expectations. Data also suggests that there’s a strong demand for Disney’s $12.99 USD bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, as their individual apps have seen a dramatic increase in downloads.
