Apple just released a battery-equipped case for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The design is extremely similar to the company’s past battery case designs, but this latest version comes with a very subtle, very useful update. Towards the bottom of the case on the same side as the power button lies a dedicated camera button. When the button is pressed, it automatically opens the iPhone camera app no matter whether the phone is locked or unlocked.
Once the camera is open, quickly pressing the button will take a photo, while holding the button down for a bit switches over to capture a video. This especially comes in handy when taking selfies, as the button lies close to where fingers naturally rest while taking pictures.
Apple claims its new case, when fully charged, can increase an iPhone’s already strong battery life by 50 percent. The case is compatible with Qi wireless chargers so you can charge both your phone and case at the same time, standard wired charging and USB-PD charging. Unlike third party battery chargers, users are able to check the case’s battery life through a widget on their lock screen.
The cases’ exterior is made from soft-touch silicone, while the inside features a microfiber lining to keep its phone companion safe.
Apple’s Smart Battery Cases are currently available to purchase on Apple’s website in three colors — black, white, and pink sand — at $129 USD for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
